A TV Guide for Tech Entrepreneurs

Tech entrepreneurs are on the cutting edge of technology, science, and some would say, fantasy. (Because of the incredible ground they’re breaking with their work.) But hustle always needs to be balanced with relaxing downtime. And what better way to spend unwind, than with an invigorating TV series?

Black Mirror

A thrilling TV series that dives into the darker side of technology, every episode of Black Mirror takes viewers on a surreal, thought-provoking, and self-contained story that will make you question everything around you – society, technology, culture, and the warped minds of particularly questionable people.

The IT Crowd

From the surreal, to the hilarious – the IT Crowd is a British sitcom that aired from 2006 to 2013. It’s also a cult favourite among self-proclaimed “IT geeks” everywhere, for its portrayal of life as a member of an IT department during that period of time.

The story revolved around three central characters – a burley IT worker who wasn’t a fan of his job, a typical socially inept (but lovable) “IT nerd”, and their boss who hilariously doesn’t know anything about IT. Together, the trio showcase the funny side of IT – our only complaint is that there are only four seasons of this gem.

Shark Tank

This is one of the most popular reality TV series of all-time, and for good reason. Firstly, this is perhaps the most “real” of all the reality shows you’ll find on TV. Nothing is scripted, as hungry entrepreneurs attempt to gain funding for their businesses by selling their ideas to “shark” investors.  The sharks are a panel of self-made multimillionaires (or billionaires) who will invest their own time and money into any deal they make. The entrepreneurs know the stakes – a successful deal with a shark could potentially transform their growing ideas into household brands.

Silicon Valley

First seen in 2014, this comedy series tells the stories of six young entrepreneurs who start a company amidst heavy competition in the tech centre of the globe. Viewers get an inside look at the inner workings of Silicon Valley, and get a glimpse of how life really is like there. (Although since this is a comedy, you should take what you see with a pinch of salt, of course.)

StartUp

This big-hitting series features a star-studded cast, including Adam Brody and Martin Freeman. The show tells the tale of a banker from Brooklyn, a Cuban hacker, and a Haitian gang Lord, as they plan to grow revolutionise the future of money – growing a billion-dollar business on digital currency.  With big names, big action, and a storyline that promises lots of drama, this is one show that will keep you on the edge of your seat – from the first episode, to its jaw-dropping finale.
