Make 2020 Your Most Incredible (and Productive) Year Ever!

With Christmas just days away and the new year just around the corner, this is the perfect time to start thinking about your 2020 aspirations. (And as go-getting meeting organisers and event planners, we know that you’re eager to get a head start!)

This is our nifty guide to making 2020 your most productive year so far!

Set goals

This may sound like a no-brainer, but you may be surprised at how many people who dream of having a better year ahead… don’t actually set goals for the year.

If this sounds like you, remember that the first (and possibly most important) step to making next year an incredible one, is to set real and actionable goals.

What we mean is, don’t simply hope that 2020 will be better than 2019. State your intentions clearly, take out a notebook (or your smartphone) and write down specific goals for every area of life – career, finances, relationships, health, family and more.

Once you can see your goals, it’ll be a lot easier to reach them.

Cut the fat from your life

Reduce unnecessary stress by conducting an audit of your personal and professional life. Start by reviewing all the projects and events you’ve worked on in the past year. Rank them according to each project’s profitability and stress levels.

Taking this bird’s eye’s perspective of the work you’ve done, will give you a clearly look at the projects that are worth keeping (and perhaps expanding) – while identifying others that may not be so worthwhile carrying into 2020.

Do the same with your personal life and you may find a few disempowering habits, overly time-consuming activities or toxic people that you could do well to remove from your life – for a more productive, happier and fulfilling year ahead.

Set time aside for yourself

Event planners and meeting organisers can get into the habit of planning everything for everyone else… but neglecting themselves in the process.

To avoid falling into this trap, it’s important to set aside time for yourself each day – and it’s important to do this in advance. Why in advance? Because organisers often place work and other people’s needs ahead of their own – and end up packing their days with a never-ending list of “TO DOs”.

Reserve at least 60 minutes a day for yourself. You can ensure this happens by placing these 60 minutes early in the day, before you get to the office – or at the end of each day, before you get to bed. Use this time to learn something new or work on a fulfilling goal – something that will bring you joy and fulfilment.

Be sure to plan your holidays in advance too! Book your plane tickets early to secure good prices (and give yourself no excuse for cancelling holiday plans for work).

Focus on the little things

In addition to the items above, there are also dozens of other small actions that you can on a daily basis to make this upcoming year an amazing one for yourself and the people around you. These include:

  • Trying something new each day, week or month

  • Focusing on the everyday things in life that bring you happiness

  • Letting go of negative thoughts the moment they enter your mind

  • Give compliments more freely

  • Smile at the people you meeting (or pass by) every day

  • Do something that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face, each and every day

Create your own list of “little things” that you can do to make 2020 a happier, better and more productive one – then focus on doing one of these things every day. Practice these little habits and we can just about guaranteed that you’ll have one truly outstanding year ahead.

Till next year, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Angage!
